Tāmaki Health has grown from a single small clinic in the heart of Otara to a network of more than 40 clinics in Auckland and New Zealand.
As part of our evolution as a company from 1 April 2019 we changed our name from Nirvana Health Group to Tāmaki Health. Read more here.
Our company began when Dr Kantilal Patel and Ranjna Patel co-founded East Tamaki Healthcare (ETHC) in the 1970s to improve access to healthcare in South Auckland.
Kantilal and Ranjna received Queen’s honours for their services to healthcare and the community. The pair hold Queens Service Medals and, in 2017, Ranjna became an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit, including for her work founding Gandhi Nivas to prevent family harm.
By 1999 there were five clinics in the network and by 2009 it had grown to nearly 20, including White Cross urgent care clinics.
In 2014 the Management Support Organisation (MSO) Nirvana Health Group was formed to support the growing number of clinics.
On 1 April, 2019 Nirvana Health Group became Tāmaki Health supporting East Tamaki Healthcare, Local Doctors and White Cross clinics. The new name was chosen because it reflected the company’s roots in Tāmaki (the Māori word for Auckland) and especially East Tāmaki where its first clinic opened.
